While growing up in rural Maine, John Stass learned the love of woodworking from his father. John's design motif is influenced by furniture from the Arts & Crafts movement, as well as the early Shakers in nearby New Gloucester village.
John is a percussionist and a guitarist and has had a diverse career in business. Before founding Katahdin MusicWorks, John was with LL Bean for 12 years, where he organized and managed the quality control system for manufacturing operations. Since 1986, he has provided consulting services to trend setting companies throughout the United States.
Katahdin MusicWorks, is in effect, a synthesis of John's love for art and music, his grasp of woodworking, and his extensive business experience. Every piece of furniture he crafts, is done one-at-a-time with the specific knowledge of who will ultimately use it. He speaks directly with every client to build a relationship that will guide his work.
